Purpose of an App Password

An app password is a 16-digit passcode that allows a less secure app or device to access your Google account. It's used when the app or device doesn't support two-factor authentication (2FA).

Steps to Get a Gmail App Password

1. Go to your Google Account:

   • Open a browser and go to myaccount.google.com.

2. Security Settings:

   • On the left, click on "Security."

3. Sign in to Google:

   • Under "Signing in to Google," make sure 2-Step Verification is on. If not, turn it on and complete the setup.

4. App Passwords:

   • After enabling 2-Step Verification, go back to the "Security" section.
   • Under "Signing in to Google," click "App passwords."

5. Generate App Password:

   • You might need to sign in again.
   • Select the app and device you want to generate the app password for from the dropdown menus.
   • Click "Generate."

6. Use the App Password:

   • A 16-digit password will appear. Copy this password.
   • Use this password in the app or device you want to connect to your Gmail account instead of your regular Google account password.

This app password ensures your Google account remains secure while allowing access from apps that do not support modern security standards.
